With all the big news dropping this week so far, now feels like a good “eye of the storm” to appreciate this understated gem from Winter Took His Life: a forlorn, slow-burning acoustic take on Tegan and Sara’s ‘07 The Con single “Back In Your Head,” released as a free MP3 this spring. WTHL’s Susanna Brandin is working on a new record under that moniker as well as an LP with the band Hunt, but in the meantime, she shared this heartfelt track alongside a similarly stripped down, hushed cover of Billie the Vision & the Dancers’ “My Love,” featured on a bonus disc to their new best-of comp mentioned in July. Both cuts are gorgeous and well worth taking a quiet, peaceful moment.
Bricks Philippines together with the Department of Tourism created an 18x30 ft Philippine map with famous regional landmarks such as Luneta, Fort Santiago, El Nido Resorts, Vigan, Batanes, Bohol and other interesting Filipino sites – all built with LEGO bricks. People can view the the exhibit at the Mall of Asia from August 12 to 27.
“Reading is an act of resistance in a landscape of distraction…. It requires us to pace ourselves. It returns us to a reckoning with time. In the midst of a book, we have no choice but to be patient, to take each thing in its moment, to let the narrative prevail. We regain the world by withdrawing from it just a little, by stepping back from the noise.”—David Ulin (via og-blay)
